Your first instinct when getting ready to prune a prickly cactus might be to stock up on heavy leather gloves to protect yourself. In reality, you'll ruin a perfectly good pair of gloves and still get pricked if you come in contact with a cactus needle. Go slow and use caution when pruning your cactuses. A little respect for the spiky needles goes a long way.
